Federal Donuts And Chicken Closes Willow Grove Site

The iconic Philadelphia donut shop has closed permanently just one year after opening on Welsh Road in Willow Grove.

WILLOW GROVE, PA — After operating for over a year, Federal Donuts and Chicken has permanently closed its shop on Welsh Road.

Considered one of Philadelphia's iconic staples, the donut shop expanded into the suburbs with the opening of its location in Montgomery County at 4021 Welsh Road.

Federal Donuts also operates locations in Conshohocken and in Marlton, N.J. Federal Donuts also has a location inside Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

At the time of its opening in January 2025, the new shop offered a small, cozy indoor dining for up to 12 people, with both bar stools and tables.

The menu was expanded, with several donut flavors including speciality cake old-fashioned, vanilla bean sprinkle, and powdered sugar. La Colombe coffee and espresso, along with hashbrowns and chicken sandwiches, remain staples.

Founded in Philly in 2011 by James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Chef Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, Federal Donuts quickly expanded to more than 10 locations between the city and the Las Vegas area.
