Free Pills Distributed To Residents Within 10-Mile Radius Of Limerick Generating Station

The potassium iodide tablets can help protect residents during radiological emergencies.

Free potassium iodide (KI) was distributed to Montgomery County residents that live within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Generating Station on Thursday.

Though it may seem alarming, the Montgomery County Health Department has done this in the past. Thursday’s event was part of the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s annual free Potassium Iodide Distribution program, the health department said in a press release.

KI can also be picked up any weekday at the Pottstown Health Center from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

KI helps to protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine during ”radiological emergencies,” the health department said.

For more information on how to take KI, and who should take it, visit the county’s official health website.
