Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms In Christmas Forecast

A heavy storm will bring rain, wind and thunder to the Philadelphia region on Christmas Eve.

A giant storm system is now gathering and forecasters say it could wallop the midwest to the Eastern seaboard with heavy rains and wind gusts of 50 mph just in time for holiday travel.

While the storm is not expected to bring snow, flooding on the ground and delays in air travel are expected, according to Weather.com, which called the potential for the storm “very serious.”

The Philadelphia region can expect rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the heaviest downpours coming on Christmas Eve. Thunderstorms are also predicted on Christmas Eve.

The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly is calling for heavy rain at times and a high of 59 degrees on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Christmas Day, the Philadelphia region can expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-50s.
