IRS Phone Scammers Accidentally Contact Community Police Services In Montgomery County
Probably not the number they were hoping to call.

An IRS scam where the caller claims to be with the Internal Revenue Service has hit Montgomery County in recent months. But on Monday, scammers dialed a number they probably wish they didn’t: Horsham Community Police Services.
The incident was immediately reported to the federal authorities, Horsham ChATs said on their Facebook page.
The number used in the attempted scam was 919-400-6572.

The caller generally claims to be a criminal investigator with the IRS and attempts to get personal information from victims. They sometimes say that they are calling about a “criminal tax matter.”
Anyone contacted by someone claiming to be such a “criminal investigator” with the IRS is urged to report the call immediately using this form online.
