On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 18 - 20, I am taking a trip with friends to Kooser State Park in Somerset, PA. We are staying in a cabin that has a stove, sink, electricity and refrigerator. The bathroom and shower facilities are separate, shared and a short walk from the cabin.
Just because we are staying in a cabin doesn't mean I'm telling you that we're camping.
Vacations with my family were often spent tent camping. It involved ice and coolers, propane stove cooking, hand-washing dishes with water warmed on the fire or stove and of course, canvas. We loved it. For kids, it is a wonderful way to spend a week. No one cares if you're dirty. No one worries if you walk to the river or trail. In fact, for a kid, there is so much freedom and opportunity to explore.
I continued camping as a Girl Scout and with family and friends in my 20s. Even when it rained, we had fun.
I am embracing the cabin-life where I will live for 3 days. However, I highly recommend tent camping to everyone.
