Little League Will Honor Fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper

The annual tradition will honor a state trooper who was the victim of a recent tragedy. His sons will throw out the first pitch.

The Little League World Series will honor a fallen Pennsylvania state trooper with an award before the start of Sunday’s final, they announced in a press release on their website Friday.

“Each year, the Little League Baseball World Series relies on strong support from the Pennsylvania State Police, specifically, Troop F headquartered in Montoursville, Pa.,” the release said.

The annual W. Howard Hartman Little League Friendship Award will be presented to Corporal Bryon K. Dickson, who was killed in the line of duty when he was shot at the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County on September 12, 2014.

His alleged killer is currently awaiting trial.

After the award presentation, Dickson’s widow, Tiffany, and their two sons, Byron and Adam, will be escorted onto the field, according to the Little League.

Byron and Adam will then throw the ceremonial first pitches before the game.

“Little League is proud to honor Troop F with the Hartman Friendship Award this year, and recognize Corporal Dickson’s family and Trooper Douglass with this special tribute.” Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO, said in the statement. “As we conclude the 2015 World Series, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the service and sacrifice of all our men and women in uniform, and honor those impacted by the terrible tragedy that took place last fall in Blooming Grove.”

There’s a possibility there could be a strong local connection. If Pennsylvania’s Red Land Little League wins the U.S. Championship on Saturday, they would play in the game following the ceremony on Sunday for the World Series title.
