Montco Man Punches Cop, Tries To Steal Firearm, Gets Shot: DA
Police said the man tried to take the officer's gun from him after punching him.
NORRISTOWN, PA — A man punched a Cheltenham police officer in the face and was shot in the ensuing struggle for the officer's firearm over the weekend, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, on the 500 block of Bridal Way.
The DA said that the responding officer, who was called about a "suspicious male" in the area, approached 27-year-old Philadelphia resident Calvin Yim. The officer asked Yim to sit down to talk, according to a detective's review of the officer's bodycam footage.

The District Attorney's Office is investigating the incident to determine if the gunfire was intentional and if so, if it was justified. The DA investigates every time an officer's weapon is discharged.
Yim was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment, and later released to county detectives, who booked him at Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related counts.
The officer was also treated at the hospital for wounds to his head and face, and was released on Saturday.
