Montgomery County Official Owes $55,000 In Back Taxes: Report

How did that happen?

A Lower Pottsgrove Township Commissioner owes more than $55,000 in back taxes and fees to municipalities throughout the area, according to multiple media reports.

Shawn Watson, a Republican elected in 2013, has ownership interest in properties and businesses that have accumulated tremendous debt, reports state.

Watson currently has liens from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, Lower Pottsgrove Township, the Pottsgrove School District, the Pottstown School District, Pottstown Borough and the Pottstown Borough Authority, Norristown Borough and the Montgomery County Tax claim Bureau, the Pottstown Mercury reports.

In April, four candidates for the Pottsgrove School Board also had judgments against them for taxes owed, according to the Mercury.
