Montgomery County students enjoy GSK Science in the Summer Day at The Franklin Institute

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The fourth annual GSK Science in the Summer™ Day at The Franklin Institute started with a bang. On Saturday, August 15, The Franklin Institute hosted nearly 1,300 GSK Science in the Summer™ students, volunteers and their families from the Greater Philadelphia area. Students enjoyed free admission and learned the chemistry behind fireworks at a special indoor science presentation in Franklin Hall.

GSK Science in the Summer™ is a free, hands-on science program for elementary students entering second through sixth grades that is sponsored by GSK and administered by The Franklin Institute in partnership with local libraries. More than 5,000 students from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties participated in the program this summer.

GSK Science in the Summer™ is part of GSK’s effort to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning and seeks to inspire elementary students to discover the joys of learning and science through engaging teachers and exciting demonstrations. The program also works to equalize educational opportunities and mitigate the effects of summer learning loss.
