We know that people and organizations "create" and name special days and designate months to recognize or advertise whatever they are interested in. To that end, today has been declared "Mother Goose Day."
This day was conceived and given birth by the Mother Goose Society - and yes that is a real group. According to the society:
Mother Goose Day was founded in 1987 by Gloria T. Delamar in tandem with the publication of her book, Mother Goose: From Nursery to Literature.
The purpose they say is to encourage the re-appreciation of the old nursery rhymes. That sounds like a shrewd marketing plan to me. So, let's go with it. if you would like to read her book, contact Upper Moreland Public Library and they will get it for you.
Oh and the day even has a motto:
"Either alone or in sharing, read childhood nursery favorites and feel the warmth of Mother Goose's embrace.
These two nursery rhyme books are on the shelf for you now.
