The wipes may be contaminated with bacteria, the FDA says.

By Alison Smith:

A Pennsylvania-based company this week recalled 10 different brands of baby wipes, saying that they may be contaminated with bacteria.

The voluntary recall by Nutek Disposables Inc. of McElhattan includes the brands Cuties, Diapers.com, Femtex, Fred’s, Kidgets, Member’s Mark, Simply Right, Sunny Smiles, Tender Touch and Well Beginnings, the Food and Drug Administration said.

The baby wipes were sold at Walgreens, Sam’s Club, Family Dollar, Fred’s and Diapers.com.

Some packages of wipes may contain the bacteria Burkholderia cepacia, Nutek said.

“B. cepacia poses little medical risk to healthy people,” the FDA said. “However, people who have certain health problems like weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases, particularly cystic fibrosis, may be more susceptible to infections with B. cepacia.”

Anyone with medical concerns should contact a doctor, the FDA said.

“Nutek takes the safety of consumers and the quality of its products very seriously and is taking all appropriate steps to address the issue and ensure this does not happen again,” the company said.

Anyone who purchased the wipes can return them for a full refund. Contact the company at 1-855-646-4351 with any questions.
