Saturday Snow Accumulation Upped 'Significantly'

Information gathered Friday afternoon has prompted forecasters to significantly increase the amount of snow accumulation expected Saturday throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the region. That storm watch, posted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, predicts 4 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday.That’s up from the estimate of 1 to 3 inches forecasters were calling for Friday morning.

The “quick moving” storm will descend upon the area Saturday sometime after 1 p.m., according to the NWS. Snow could become heavy at times Saturday before the precipitation switches over to rain overnight into Sunday.

The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Saturday afternoon until Sunday at 6 a.m.

Here’s the forecast:

Friday: Partly cloudy, with a low around 3.

Saturday: Snow, mainly after 1 pm. High near 32. Wind chill values as low as -1. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 10 pm, then snow between 10pm and 11pm, then rain and snow showers after 11pm. The rain and snow could be heavy at times. Low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 7am, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.
