Scorching Hot Weather, Air Quality Alert Issued For Montco Thursday

Hot, summer-like temperatures will remain in Montgomery County on Thursday, as the final days of spring tick away.

The high of 92 will be reached at about 4 p.m., per Weather.com, with temperatures remaining at 88 degrees or higher from 1 p.m. until after 6 p.m.

An air quality alert is also in effect for the Philadelphia metropolitan area on Thursday, according to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commision.

The commission issued a ”code orange” alert for Thursday.

“A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups,” the description reads. “Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.”

According to the Air Quality Index, air health is determined by the presence of five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act: ground-level ozone, particle pollution (also known as particulate matter), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.
