Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 542 Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Thomas Devery and Joseph Seyler of Boy Scout Troop 542 in Maple Glen, Pa., received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America, at a recent Court of Honor ceremony.
During his Scouting career, Thomas Devery earned 23 merit badges. He attended the BSA National Youth Leadership Training program (NYLT) and participated in two of the BSA High Adventure Bases, the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, Islamorada, Fl., and the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base at The Summit Bechtel Reserve, Mt. Hope, W.Va. His leadership positions in the troop included Den Chief, Patrol Quartermaster and Troop Quartermaster.
For his Eagle Project, Devery led a group in the removal, reconstruction, and installation of trail posts used to guide visitors at the Jarett Nature Center, which took more than 170 work hours. He currently attends Montgomery Community College and plans to transfer to Penn State University to pursue a career in physics and engineering.

Kyle McKibbin, from the office of Pa. State Rep. Todd Stephens, presented a House citation congratulating Devery on achieving his Eagle rank.
Joseph Seyler earned 38 merit badges and Assembly of God religious emblems including God & Me, God & Family and God & Church. He has served as a Den Chief since 2014, for which he was recognized with the Den Chief Service Award Cord. He received the Baden-Powell District’s Den Chief Award for three consecutive years and the Baden-Powell District’s Roy Imsick Youth Service Boy Scout Award. He attended the Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely, Minn., and Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. He also earned BSA’s 50-Miler Award.

Pa. State Rep. Thomas Murt presented Seyler with a House citation congratulating him on his accomplishments and on earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
For his Eagle project, Seyler led a team of 41 volunteers who spent 310 work hours assembling benches, clearing trails, roofing buildings and refurbishing archery and sling-shot ranges at Carson Simpson Farm Christian Camp in Hatboro, Pa. A sophomore at Lower Moreland High School, he is an avid volunteer for numerous charity organizations and has received the Gold US Presidential Service Award for the last 3 years.
Boy Scout Troop 542, based at Supplee Presbyterian Church in Maple Glen, Pa., has more than 100 youth members and is led by Scoutmaster John Schultz. Since its inception in 1969, 148 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
