SEPTA Avoids Regional Rail Strike This Month, Total Shutdown Possible in Feb.
SEPTA officials are going to ask for another 120-day emergency board to mediated the labor dispute with Regional Rail employees.

A SEPTA regional rail strike that some feared would happen this month will likely be avoided, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Officials announced they are going to ask for another 120-day emergency board to mediate the labor dispute between approximately 200 Regional Rail engineers and SEPTA when the existing board expires on Oct. 13.
The second board’s term would expire in February, when a complete SEPTA strike is possible, Philadelphia Magazine reported.

That’s because about 5,000 bus drivers, subway operators, mechanics and cashiers are working under an expired contract. Philadelphia Magazine says the chances are high that they’d walk out with Regional Rail employees to create a system-wide strike.
