SEPTA Baffled As Pope Passes Fail To Sell Out, Reports Say

Regional rail passes for the Pope's visit are still very much available, to SEPTA's surprise.

To the surprise of SEPTA and onlookers who have listened to the rabid anticipation and mania leading up to the Pope’s visit for months, regional rail passes for Pope Francis’ weekend in Philadelphia are not sold out, according to reports.

Not even close.

“We want you to be there,” SEPTA general manager Joseph Casey told Philly.com. “We are doing everything possible to make it easy for you to come see the pope.”

SEPTA has long been encouraging anyone who wanted to travel to the city during the Pope’s visit to purchase the rail passes.

It was anticipated they would sell out instantly after the initial sale crashed SEPTA’s server because too many people were trying to buy passes at one time.

About 200,000 of the 350,000 available passes for the weekend of September 26 and 27 remain, the report states.

They cost $10 a day, and can be purchased at select SEPTA stations around the region. For a list of locations where passes can be picked up, please see the SEPTA website.
