Our featured artist is Kate Kolbe from REED SILK STUDIO - http://www.reedsilkstudio.com/
Reed Silk Studio creates one of a kind, hand painted playsilks for imaginative play!
All works are 100% silk and are handpainted by Kate Kolbe, who has been
painting silk for about 15 years. Having had a taste of the beauty of
painting on silk in a workshop in high school, Kate pursued her interest
at Drexel University, where she majored in Fashion Design. Kate would
often paint her own fabrics, then sew
them into garments for schools projects. After college, Kate painted
and sold ladies' scarves and men's neckties. When hen her first
daughter was born, she decided to paint a few playsilks for her in
various sizes. Her friends started ordering them and a beloved hobby
soon gave life to a business!
She began working using the
French Serti method, but eventually took on a more free-form style. She
uses a variety of purchased and household items to create her
atmospheric fabrics and each piece is unique, although a definite common
look tends to be visible in all of Kate's pieces.
Reed Silk
Studio has been on the artist's mind for years - Reed being her middle
name, as well as her daughter's. Please enjoy perusing the shop as these
pieces are all close to the artist's heart and she very much enjoys
sharing them!
