Upper Moreland School District Transportation Policy
Looking for more parents to support our petition to the Upper Moreland School Board!
I am with few other parents almost done working on the petition to the Upper Moreland School District Board.
We would like our School Board to revisit their School Bus Transportation policy.(Primarily for the High School students)
Some facts:
Upper Moreland School Board Transportation policy board policy # 810 was adapted back in 1979.
Last time it was revised back in 1992 - 23 years a go!
According to the Upper Moreland School District Transportation Policy In order to get approved for the school bus - student needs to reside more than 2 miles away! - This is the most important topic which we would like for the school Board to review.
Safety of our kids is our main concern and as parents from the Willow Grove area we are very concerned!
Some observation facts:
If you have had an experience contacting to the Superintendent or School District Transportation office most likely your request will be denied or rejected. This is the only reason why we need to act on this issue as a Team!
Some examples:
Please see the following article in reference Davisville Rd is deemed hazardous by Penn-DOT in 2010, but unfortunately our school District still does not allow our kids who reside 1.7-2.0 miles away to have a bus, but forcing them to use hazardous Davisville Rd!

We did some research and this is what our neighboring schools have in place:
Lower Moreland: no boundaries – non-walking school district! Everyone is eligible for the bus!
Abington School District: Transportation is provided for students residing one and one-half miles or more from the school unless, in the opinion of the proper authorities, a major traffic hazard exists along the route traveled by the student.
Horsham – Hatboro: 1.5 miles
From the Upper Moreland Police District:
For the past 3 years we had 44 Pedestrian involved accidents in the radius 2.0 miles from the High School (Primarily - Davisville Rd, Easton Rd and Fitzwatertown Rd.
From FBI website:
We have 17 registered sex offenders residing in 1 mile radius from the High School
And lastly with our property tax going as high as up to $10000 and up in a year we cannot understand why our kids are not allowed for the bus? What are we paying our School tax for?
Please pass it around our neighbors, even if their kids are small now, we can work as a Team and make a difference for community in the future.
Once our petition is ready we would just need more signatures! The more we have the better chance of our kids to be safe, and to make our Tax Dollar work for us and not against us.
