The 2012 Toyota Yaris subcompact has been thoroughly redesigned. The Yaris now offers consumers significantly more utility and better handling than previous models. The 2012 front-wheel drive Yaris lineup includes two and four- door hatchback models, available in L or LE trim packages. The four-door model is also available in a sporty SE trim package that offers additional premium features and performance.
The Yaris is still powered by Toyota’s dependable 1.5 liter inline power plant. The four-cylinder engine generates 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. The Yaris comes standard with a five-speed transmission. The manual-equipped gas mileage rating for the economical Yaris is 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. When equipped with the automatic transmission, the mileage rating is 30 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Standard safety features include front antilock brakes and rear drums, traction and stability control, active front head restraints and nine airbags.
The entry level Yaris includes the following standard features:
15 inch steel wheels

Intermittent mono-arm windshield wiper

Power door locks

Rear windshield wiper

Air conditioning

Tilt steering wheel

Four-way adjustable front seats

Fold-down rear seat

Trip computer

Power door locks

The LE trim package also includes:

Steering wheel mounted audio controls

Six-way adjustable driver seat

Upgraded interior trim

60-40 split fold-down rear seat

Bluetooth audio/phone connectivity

Six-speaker sound system including HD radio

The sporty SE trim adds many additional standard features, including sport-tuned suspension, performance tires, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and four-wheel disc brakes. The SE trim also comes with a unique grill, fog lamps and upgraded cloth upholstery.
Interior Design
The front seats in the 2012 Yaris are well padded, supportive and perched high for an outstanding view of the roadway. The backseat is comfortable and affords passengers plenty of leg and toe room. The interior design is modern and appealing, and the control layout is friendly and intuitive. The quality of the sound system is above average for its class. Toyota increased the length of the 2012 Yaris in order to increase luggage capacity. The four-door Yaris provides 15.6 cubic feet of luggage space.
