One of this year's spa trends is to experience weightlessness. Some have found it in aerial yoga, floatation tanks and anti-gravity treadmills.
Believe it or not there are plans to build a Space Resort in Barcelona where spa-goers will experience the world's first "zero-gravity" spa. That boggles my mind!
What are the benefits of weightlessness? It shatters stress and induces mental rest. It brings clarity of mind and often touches buried memories that are emotionally charged. Sometimes this is the first step in deep healing.
Along with the mental and emotional benefits of weightlessness, there is physical healing.Â
Gravity compresses our spine/discs, and causes all kinds of maladies: backaches, swollen feet, varicose veins, compressed organs which become limited in their function.
Studies have shown that being in a weightless environment can reduce headaches, depression and insomnia while lowering blood pressure and improving skin.
These treatments may be hard to find in our area but, thankfully, you can receive a water body therapy (also know as Watsu) session. During your treatment you will be "floated" in warm water. The practitioner will support you while you are gently swirled, stretched and massaged.
After a few minutes most people are able to surrender to the skilled, attentive guidance of the therapist and slide weightlessly into a place of mental peace. Your only responsibility during this treatment is to RECEIVE.
The comment most people make when brought back to reality is, "Wow! That was amazing!"
There are only two certified Watsu practitioners in Pennsylvania. One is Julie Angel who practices in Chestnut Hill and me, Carol Cheshire. I work out of home therapy pools, Swim-in Zone (Center Valley) and Steel Fitness Premier (Allentown).
If you would like to experience this beautiful form of "warm water massage", call either of us for an appointment. Julie Angel can be reached at 215-836-9779. Contact Carol Cheshire at 610-282-1888.
