Live music, food, and games drew in a crowd of close to 100 attendees during Kevin Deely’s community block party held this past Sunday on 28th Street SW between Ithaca and Fernor Streets. While face-painted children played games and earned school supplies as prizes, Deely, a 10th grade English teacher and state House candidate, listened to the families voice their concerns about more sobering issues related to education and the economy.
While Deely has knocked thousands of doors reaching out to voters, community members were especially appreciative of Deely’s efforts to give back to the community and make himself accessible to the people he plans to represent. “It’s great to see a candidate reaching out to the community and who is willing to listen and talk to us about the issues,” Andrea Kellam, a resident of 28th Street SW said at the event, and added, “Many of us feel that our voices are misrepresented in Harrisburg right now. Plus, I've only lived here a few months so I was happy to have this opportunity to meet and talk to all of my neighbors. I'm pleased that the block party was so successful.”
The free event was open to the public. As the father of two girls, and a growing family, Deely has campaigned on the issues of education and fighting for the middle class.

Deely also commented on the success of the block party by stating, “Knocking on doors is a great way to meet people that live in my district, but an event like this strengthens the sense of community and opens up a forum for families to really get to know you and how you stand on the issues that matter.”
