Oh No! The Oven is Dirty Again!

Improve the cleanliness of your oven by adding some much needed seasoning!

The other day Iwas roasting some chicken in my oven and I noticed something. My oven was producing a fair amount of smoke. Upon further investigation I realized that my oven needed a good cleaning. Now fortunately it has a self cleaning mode, but for the sake of my own curiosity I decided to give it a natural cleaning. Thereare many products out there designed to make oven cleaning quick and easy, but of course as you can guess they are not really very friendly to your health. Here are some simple ingredients and steps to make your oven sparkle naturally.

  1. To start when you have a spill try to clean it immediately before the spill cooks onto the surface. This is not always possible or safe so
    use your discretion.
  2. You can sprinkle salt on the spill and allow to sit. Then wipe down the oven with a damp cloth. Salt works great for removing the stain of the spill as well as providing an abrasive presence to help remove the grime from the spill.
  3. You can scrub your whole oven with a paste made
of salt, vinegar and warm water. The acidic qualities in the vinegar will help
to eat through the grime and the salt will remove the stains. Apply the paste
and then allow it to sit for a while. Then add some elbow grease and to the
mix. Once you have scrubbed the oven thoroughly wipe it down with a damp cloth.

This process is not quite as easy or convenient as using a chemical spray oven cleaner but it is effective and it sure beats introducing all the harmful chemicals to your household. Who knows...maybe you'll add some flavor to your oven:)
