The Brawny Man Needs a New Flannel!

Paper towels are very convenient but there are simple eco-friendly alternatives.

A while back I was cleaning my kitchen and was struck by how many paper towels I was using. Then the thought occurred to me: “Just how many paper towels do I use?". I looked into it and found that American households and businesses create 3000 tons of waste every day just from paper towel use. So what are we to do? Should we just stop cleaning up messes? Fortunately there are some solutions to this issue.

  1. Buy and use recycled paper towels. These towels
are just as effective and they not only help reduce land-fill waste but they
help to conserve both water and energy. You must shop carefully though. Some brands are fairly expensive and you also want to read reviews on the effectiveness of brands.
  2. Old rags can be used to clean and dust. This is
the cheapest and most cost effective alternative. Many times you will find that these work great for the type of cleaning you do.
  3. I’m sure by now you’ve heard all about microfiber cloths and the advantages to using them in your home. We all know the shamwow guy! Microfiber cloths have really come a long way and you can even purchase cloths that cater to the specific cleaning you need to do. The initial investment is definitely worth it and I have found them to be very effective.

No matter which option you choose make sure that it fits
your needs and that you find a good combination of strategies for proper
cleaning. You can even use paper towels for spacific cleaning projects instead of for every task. It’s not always easy to make these changes, but it’s worth the extra
effort!
