Coopersburg Infrastructure Committee Talks Road Repairs

E. Landis Street to see improvements

Members of the Coopersburg Borough Council attended a meeting Monday night where the infrastructure, government relations, administrative and public safety committees discussed pertinent issues.

Council President Jack Felch explained that these meetings are “an opportunity to discuss issues that might come up during the council meetings. This allows us to be better informed and prepared for the meetings.”

The infrastructure committee, partly comprised of Councilmen Dennis Balascak and Harvey Greenland, discussed the quality of borough streets. A new “oil and chip process” will be applied to the deteriorating E. Landis Street.

“It’s a process the state employed to Main Street, W. 8th Street and Station Avenue,” said Balascak. “It’s a fairly quick process and a very effective one that builds a solid base that is meant to last 30 or 40 years.”

Balascak explained that the funds for the road repair will come out of the state’s $52,000 liquid fuels fund provided to the borough. He also explained that the project will consist of more than just the oil and chip process.

“This street experiences inefficient storm water drainage,” said Balascak. “This will also need to be addressed with the implementation of a storm sewer.”

These are repairs that are expected to be completed in 2013.
