Corporal Badges Awarded to UST Law Enforcement

In front of a packed house, Chief of Police Robert Coyle awards corporal badges to Michael Fritts, Thomas Nicoletti and Raymond Schrampf.

Police Chief Robert Coyle awarded corporal badges to Officers Michael Fritts and Raymond Schrampf and Det. Thomas Nicoletti at the Board of Supervisors meeting July 16.

Based on the outcome of an extensive three-phase test -- which included a written examination, an oral interview with a Pennsylvania police consultant, and a work performance review by Coyle -- Fritts, Nicoletti and Schrampf were selected to receive corporal badges.

Corporal positions became available when The township approved an additional third position in the 2013-2014 budget cycle.

“I am certainly proud of the officers. They are well deserving of their promotions and have all worked very hard over the years with the agency,” Coyle said.

All three have been with the township for years and have served different roles within the department. They said they were delighted to receive the honor.

“It feels fantastic to receive this badge. It is a great department and a great township, and I am proud to be promoted,” Nicoletti said.

Fritts, who started with the township in 1998, has served as first canine officer and coordinates and oversees the Lehigh County DUI checkpoints. Nicoletti, who started in 1999, has been a detective, a negotiator and even an IT troubleshooter for the township. Schrampf, who has been with Upper Saucon since 2004, has been the firearms instructor for the department and has played an instrumental role in issuing use-of-force policies.

"I know that I can expect great things from these men in the future," Coyle said.
