Day Trip, Lehigh Valley: The Little Lehigh Fish Hatchery
A local spot is a unique summer destination.
Definitely a destination that is apt to be more familiar to locals who grew up with weekend trips to the Fish Hatchery, the Little Lehigh Fish Hatchery (technically called the Queen City Trout Nursery and with Little Lehigh sometimes spelled Lil Le Hi) offers a unique and fun destination for kids and anglers of all ages.
The fish hatchery has pools housing fish in each stage of growth, so it is easy to see how fish develop, making it an excellent educational opportunity. Older fish can be fed with food that is for sale at the Fish Hatchery. This has been a highlight with children of all ages for decades.
The nearby park system includes areas for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The area is renowned for fishing, and the nearby fly fishing store provides gear as well as training opportunities.Â

While you're there, check out the Museum of Indian Culture, which is open on the weekends. The museum grounds are also the site of the Roasting Ears of Corn Festival in August. More info on the festival is on the website
The Fish Hatchery is conveniently located on Fish Hatchery Road in Allentown.
