“It’s the closest thing the science department can do to rival the productions of the DeSales performing arts division,” said Dr. Rodger Berg, director of the Chemistry Demonstrations, associate professor, and head of the natural science and healthcare division. “Our students use a fire-breathing dragon and a goblet of fire to introduce chemistry to younger students.”
The DeSales University Chemistry Program will present the spring edition of the 13th Annual Chemistry Demonstrations Program on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hurd Auditorium, located in the Hurd Science Center on the DeSales Center Valley Campus.

The DeSales faculty and students who participate in the Chemistry Demonstrations Program seek to instill elementary, middle and high school students with a love of science. The demonstrations combine chemical concepts with humor and music to present over a dozen highly visual and entertaining experiments that are a treat for all the senses.
The purpose of the Chemistry Demonstrations Program is to provide elementary, middle and high school students with the opportunity to increase their appreciation of the importance of science, and in particular, to enrich their understanding of chemistry.

Students from area middle schools and high schools come to the University’s Center Valley campus to attend daytime performances during the academic year. The program is seen by more than 1,000 students a year.
Assisting Berg with the program are natural science faculty members Dr. Sara Hayik, assistant professor; Dr. Julie Himmelberger, assistant professor; Dr. Francis Mayville, associate professor of chemistry; and Mrs. Patricia Hartman, chemistry laboratory manager.
