Budget hearings continue next week as the House Appropriations Committee closely examines the governor’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year. The Independent Fiscal Office, Department of Revenue, Department of Aging, Auditor General and Attorney General were among the first to testify.

Tues., Feb. 18
     9:30 a.m. -Public School Employees Retirement System/State Employees Retirement System
     1:30 p.m. -Department of Education
     3:00 p.m. -Department of Labor and Industry
Wed., Feb. 19
     9:30 a.m. - Public Utility Commission 11:00 a.m. - Office of Consumer       Affairs/Small Business Advocate
     1:00 p.m. - Department of Environmental Protection

The Commonwealth’s General Fund revenue collections for the month of January were approximately $2.36 billion, which is $43.5 million less than expected. General Fund collections so far this year total $14.65 billion, which is $41 million below the official estimate. Learn more.
 
Property Tax/Rent Rebate forms for the 2013 tax year just arrived in my district office. Under the state program, rebates of up to $650 are available to eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities.
