My staff and I would like to invite you to an open house at my district office on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. My district office is located at 21 North Main St., Unit 9, in Coopersburg. As the fiscal 2014-15 budget process is set to begin, the January Economic Report indicated below-forecast revenue collections for December. General Fund revenue collections for the month were $2.4 billion, which is $40 million less than expected.

Budget Secretary Charles Zogby predicts a deficit of up to $1.4 billion to deal with in the upcoming budget negotiations. Gov. Tom Corbett will deliver his budget address on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Learn more.  
 
In an effort to comply with a new law that made changes to the state’s Small Games of Chance Act, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has extended the reporting deadline until Feb. 1, 2015. In addition, nonprofit organizations that do not hold liquor licenses will not have to submit a report.

To help explain the new small games of chance law, informational sessions will be held in the coming weeks statewide. The seminars are for those interested in tavern gaming only. Learn more.  
 
High school seniors can now apply for a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship to help cover the costs of higher education. Each year, two students are awarded four-year scholarships, which are privately funded. The application deadline is March 1. Learn more.
