Hopewell Elementary Sings for Spring
Third-grade students show off their singing and playing skills during 2011 Spring Concert.
Hundreds of parents, relatives and friends filled the auditorium at Hopewell Elementary on Tuesday, Apr. 5 as third-grade students performed during their annual Spring Concert.
Four classes of third-graders performed songs with both vocal and orchestral skills. Director Dough Bolaski first led the 30 plus student orchestra in numbers such as "Old MacMary Had A Little Farm" and "Tick-Tock Back-Talk" with their violins, violas and cellos.
Southern Lehigh High School students also joined them - Luke Niemkiewicz on the bass, Matthew Wehr on the piano and Kelly Farrell on percussion.

The entire third-grade student body then performed several choral numbers using props, recorders and sign language as they entertained the audience which filled the auditorium to capacity.
Hopewell Elementary students begin lessons three days each week beginning at the start of the school year. This is their first exposure to instruments through the Southern Lehigh School District.

Bolaski, also the Southern Lehigh High School band director, orchestra director and music theory teacher, visits Hopewell several days per week to provide lessons to small groups of two to four students.
Hopewell principal, Lori Limpar, said this was the first time all third-grade students joined together as an orchestra to perform with their instruments.
It was a beautiful thing!
