Kindergarten Numbers Higher Than Last Year
Southern Lehigh Superintendent of Schools Leah Christman told the Solehi School Board at Monday night's meeting that kindergarten enrollment numbers are slightly above where there were at the same point last year.

It’s pretty early in the process, but it's something to be watched.
That's the message that Superintendent of Schools Leah Christman delivered to the Southern Lehigh School Board about kindergarten enrollment numbers during her report at Monday night’s school board meeting.
Following kindergarten registration last month, kindergarten enrollment numbers for the 2013-2104 school year are slightly higher than they were at this point in the process last year, Christman said, with 160 kindergarten students registered for the fall. “It was higher than expected and higher than in past years,” she said.

Typically, Christman explained after the meeting, the district picks up about 20-30 kindergarten students during the summer months. If that trend holds true this summer, Solehi kindergarten rosters could be quite full.
“We are going to have to keep an eye on those numbers,” Christman said. “We need to encourage residents to come in and register. It is going to be tricky.”

According to Christman, 167 students began as Solehi kindergarteners in fall 2012 and there are currently 172 kindergarten students across the district’s three elementary schools.
There is a morning and an afternoon kindergarten class in each building, she said.
