Lanark and Camp Meeting Roads to Undergo Traffic Sign Changes
Township Manager says changes will make intersection safer for drivers.
The Upper Saucon Board of Supervisors announced plans to implement changes on a crucial Center Valley intersection. Traffic signs along Camp Meeting and Lanark roads will be repositioned for an easier, safer commute, the supervisors said.
The township asked the state Department of Transportation to implement the changes. PennDOT approved them on Aug. 12.
“It will be more convenient for our residents, because more people will benefit from the proposed changes on the intersection,” Township Manager Thomas F. Beil said.

At present, two stop signs are positioned on the Camp Meeting through street -- one at Lanark Road and the other along Route 309 north. Drivers going east on Lanark must stop at the intersection and yield to drivers on Camp Meeting. Traffic coming from Route 309 north through Camp Meeting does not stop, making it difficult for Lanark drivers to turn left due to limited visibility on the right.
Beil said the implementation will take effect in about two weeks. A barrier will be placed on Camp Meeting’s left lane along the Lanark intersection, blocking traffic from going south to Route 309 North. Camp Meeting will become a one-way road, as opposed to a two-way through street, allowing only drivers heading north from Route 309 on the right to proceed.

Commuters going south on Camp Meeting to Route 309 north or south must turn right onto Lanark. One-way signs along the Lanark/Camp Meeting north and south corners will guide drivers to proceed to Route 309 via Lanark.
The stop sign on Lanark/Camp Meeting's east corner will briefly remain. Two "All Traffic Must Turn Left" signs will be posted on Lanark to alert drivers of the Camp Meeting barrier. The first turn-left sign will be posted halfway on Lanark, while the other will be attached to the stop sign at the Camp Meeting intersection.
A new stop sign will be placed on the north corner of Lanark/Camp Meeting to let Lanark-bound drivers make left turns onto Camp Meeting. The stop sign will have an additional yellow warning sign that will read "Traffic From Left Does Not Stop," warning drivers from Route 309 north about opposing Lanark traffic. A blinking light will accompany the stop sign to further alert northbound commuters. Meanwhile, the stop sign along the Camp Meeting/Route 309 North intersection will be removed to allow drivers an easy passage on the through street.
An "All Traffic Must Turn Right" sign will be placed along the right lane on Lanark/Camp Meeting’s south corner, requiring drivers to turn right due to the barrier.
At the implementation’s end, the stop sign on Lanark/Camp Meeting’s east corner will be removed, with the "All Traffic Must Turn Left" sign remaining. The barrier on Camp Meeting also will be taken out and replaced with a "Do Not Enter" sign, preventing southbound drivers from going on the through street.
Both the blinking light and "Traffic From Left" sign on the Lanark/Camp Meeting north corner also will be taken out, with only the stop sign remaining.
