Lower Milford Waiting For $80,000 FEMA Grant

A grant to stabilize the creek bank off Schultz Bridge Road is still pending and must be completed by March 31.

$80,000 FEMA Grant

At the March 15 Board of Supervisors meeting, Lower Milford reported on a stalled FEMA grant of $80,000 and penalties for delinquent sewer hookups in Limeport. The Macungie Ambulance Corps also made a presentation.

Lower Milford applied for the $80,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to stabilize the riverbank off of Schultz Bridge Road. To date, the funds have not been received, township manager Ellen Koplin said.

The state Department of Environmental Protection has a deadline for the projects to be completed March 31, but the board will file a project extension for Nov. 1 in order to have time to process the funds.

Delinquent Sewer Accounts

Supervisors approved penalties for delinquent sewer accounts. The Limeport sewer system has four residences who have not hooked up to the system. “There are a few refusing to pay,” Koplin said.

Unlike other municipalities, the sewage treatment plant is under control of the township, not a sewage authority, Supervisor Donna Wright explained.

“We have a much better idea about what’s going on,” she added.

If the penalties are not paid, the township would be able to get a court order for a lien against a residence, Koplin said.

Macungie Ambulance Corps

Chris Greb of the Macungie Ambulance Corps gave the 2011 incident report. Macungie EMS responded to 3,103 calls and provides coverage to around 40,000 residents. “It was another record-breaking year for us,” Greb said.

The corps had purchased around $92,000 in life-saving equipment and has pushed for the use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) in the community, Greb said.

“You guys have been really good to us,” Koplin said.
