Outgoing Coopersburg Mayor Elected to Council
Two of three incumbents re-elected; incumbent Nalichowski defeated.
Coopersburg Mayor Jonathan Mack didn't seek re-election, but the Republican wound up getting elected to borough council Tuesday, thanks in part to a write-in triumph in the spring primary.
In the race for four open council seats, Republican Timothy Pica, another spring write-in winner, took fourth place and thus won a council seat.
The other two winners were incumbents -- Republicans Dennis Balascak and Harvey Greenfield.
Meanwhile, incumbent Democrat Richard Nalichowski lost his re-election bid, finishing fifth.
With 100 percent of the votes tallied, here are the final totals as posted on WFMZ-TV's website:

--Greenland, 231
--Pica, 215
--Nalichowski, 147.

As far as mayor is concerned, Republican former council president Gary Hovis was unopposed. Like Mack and Pica, he was a write-in winner in the primary.
Patch reported in the spring that Coopersburg finished the primary with a problem: It had more open seats than it had candidates to fill them.
Mack didn't seek re-election as mayor, and no one ran for his seat. Likewise, there were four open council seats in the primary, but only three candidates -- incumbents Balascak, Nalichowski and Greenland.
