No Tax Hike in Adopted Preliminary School Budget

The Southern Lehigh School Board unanimously approves the preliminary school district budget for the 2013-14 school year.

With almost no discussion on the matter, the Southern Lehigh School Board Monday night unanimously approved the preliminary 2013-14 district budget.

, setting the tax rate at 46.05 mills. During a budget presentation at the board's March 24 meeting, Jeremy Melber, directer of business services, explainted that about $1.16 million from the district’s fund balance will be used to balance the 2013-2014 budget, leaving about $13.6 million to carry forward.

The budget is now available for public review and will be available through the Southern Lehigh School District website, Superintendent of Schools Leah Christman said at the meeting. It must be available to the public for at least 30 days before final adoption, Christman explained.

Final adoption of the 2013-14 will likely happen at the school board’s May 21 meeting.

Board president Jeffrey Dimig was not in attendance Monday night. Corinne Gunkle ran the meeting in his absence. Melber was also absent from the meeting.
