SoLeHi Softball Loses Championship Game 4-1

Spartans cannot overcome strong Becahi first inning

SoLeHi came into the District 11 play-offs with hopes that were as high as the soaring temperatures on Tuesday.  But unlike the heat, which was relentless during the game, the Lady Spartans hopes for a District 11 Championship cooled as strong pitching by Becahi's Joelle Morey kept the Spartan bats eerily cold.

Bethlehem Catholic pulled out to an early lead in the first inning when a series of walks and SoLeHi blunders allowed four Becahi batters to cross home plate.  But Katie Tankred showed her "stuff" by regrouping and coming back strong, allowing only one Becahi hit.  And it looked like SoLeHi would capitalize on a hit by Cory Ozanne, followed by a double by Shelby Wilson.  But Wilson was called out after a slide into home, retiring the side.  SoLeHi would not see another rally and the game ended with Becahi taking the Championship (4-1)

SoLeHi last won a District Softball Crown in 2007.  Since then, the team has finished in the finals or quarter finals every year, including a 2-0 loss in the Championship game last year against Palisades.  Earlier this season, SoLeHi won the Colonial League Championship by beating out Pen Argyl.
