Southern Lehigh Presents Year End Athletic Awards

The Southern Lehigh Year end Athletic Awards and Hall of Fame ceremony was held at the High School Sunday evening.  Hall of Fame inductees included Christine Weiss (Field Hockey and Softball), Tony Hegedus (track and field) and Rob Schubach (Baseball, Basketball).  Athletes of the Year included Emily Cerciello, Michael DiSanto and Jason Moyer.  A detailed article with all of the award winners will be following shortly.

Boys Basketball

The Boys Varsity Basketball team began play for the Stellar summer league on Thursday evening, facing Liberty.   Southern Lehigh is one of only 4 Colonial League teams participating in the league.  Although Liberty won the game, the Spartans kept the game close.  The Stellar Summer League will be playing two games a week at Cedar Beach, with the next game slated for 6:15 on Tuesday at Cedar Beach in Allentown, when the boys will be playing Dierolf.  The Junior Varsity and Freshman teams will also be participating in the Stellar League, although some scheduling is still being finalized.

Boys Tennis

Patch inadvertently reported that Eric Perez had won state gold.  Eric Perez won District 11 gold and qualified for the state tournament.  He participated in the State Tournament but lost in the first round to Bas Van Lent of Pine-Richland High School.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused our readers.

Reminder to all School Athletes and Parents

 Fall Sports Physicals will be held for school athletes on Saturday, June 11, 2011.  The Physical Fee of $7.75 is due at the time of the physical.  A physical is required for participation in all school sports, whether you decide to utilize the school physical, or prefer to have your family doctor complete the physical.  Please see the School District website (www.slsd.org) for details.

Southern Lehigh Community Fitness Center

The Southern Lehigh Community Fitness Center will be closing for the summer this Saturday, June 11.  The Fitness center will be reopening when school returns to session in the fall.

Southern Lehigh Swimming Pool

For those of you who have watched the progress on the Southern Lehigh Swimming pool and would like to help the cause, plus have a little fun, head over to Putt U on Route 309 on this Tuesday from 5-8 pm.  The Southern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a charity event benefiting SOLECO pool.   Tickets for a fun evening of mini golf are $5 per attendee or $15  for a family ticket.

The pool is scheduled to open on June 18^th.  Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming weeks.
