Southern Lehigh Girls Basketball Rules Colonial League
Wins first league Championship since 2005 by beating top seeded Northern Lehigh 42-33
With seconds to go in the game, Junior Bridgette Doughtery held the ball for Southern Lehigh as the clock ticked down. The grin on her face told the whole story. The second seeded Southern Lehigh Girls Basketball team had just knocked off top seed Northern Lehigh to take home Colonial League gold medals.
Dougherty, along with Senior starters Hannah Doell and Eleni Dimou, set the pace for the Southern Lehigh team. The trio scored 34 of the teams 42 points. Although Northern Lehigh kept within points of the Spartan team for the whole game, fouls by Northern Lehigh to gain possession of the ball in the final minutes of the game sent Dimou to the line twice in the fourth quarter. Dimou shot 4 for 7 from the foul line to insure the lead would remain with Southern Lehigh.
Of special note was the presence of Christine Crivellaro on the Spartan bench. "The last time I was in this gym was when we won the Colonial League game" said Crivellaro. Crivellaro was a guard on the 2005 team, the last Girls Basketball team to win Colonial League gold. Crivellaro now teaches and coaches in the district.
