Until Monday, the Saucon Valley team was the only girls soccer team in the Colonial League that was undefeated in League Play. But that did not stop the Southern Lehigh girls soccer team from looking to topple the Saucon Panthers. Tough defense by Southern Lehigh kept the Panther offense from being able to get a solid look at the goal, while SoLeHi Goaltender Melanie Novak blocked 10 shots on goal.
Undoubtedly the wet field conditions, along with the unseasonably hot and humid weather had its impact on both teams. Neither team could rely on long passes or sustained sprints to dominate the game and the game shifted to short pass play. The Southern Lehigh team seized this advantage and kept the ball firmly in offensive position for much of the second half.
Persistance would allow Sami Moyer to get the ball past Saucon goaltender Kelly Shoenberger, with the assist provided by SoLeHi's Kelsey King.

The loss opens up the South Division for the potential of a change in lead. While Saucon is still in first place, both Saucon and Southern Lehigh are scheduled to play Wilson (7-2-1) and Moravian (6-2) in the upcoming weeks. With the records of the top teams being so close, they all can be considered to have a shot at topping the South Division. The top two South Division teams will move onto Colonial League tournament play.
Colonial League tournament play will commence on May 11 with Semifinals. The Championship game is scheduled for May 13th, weather permitting and will determine the League Champion for the 2011 season.
