Southern Lehigh Library Seeks Board Member

Vacancy to open July 1

A representative of Lower Milford Township is needed to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Southern Lehigh Library Board of Directors.

Present member Arthur Roth will resign his position effective July 1, with one year remaining on his term.  The representative appointed will fill his unexpired term – July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.  In spring of 2012, the township supervisors will appoint a representative to fill a full three-year term. 

Responsibilities for board members are as follows:

  • Directors are appointed by their municipality for a three-year term beginning July 1 and ending June 30; Directors can seek re-appointment for one additional three-year term.
  • Library advocacy with residents, business leaders, federal, state and local leaders
  • Fundraising/Grant seeking
  • Oversee library operations, hire director, set policy
  • Attendance at monthly board meetings; directors may be asked to hold an office during their term
  • Participation in committee assignments
  • Participation in library events
  • Directors are encouraged to attend continuing education opportunities sponsored by state and local organizations
  • To seek out and voice the concerns and opinions of township residents regarding library service
  • Maintain good communication between the library board of directors and the township supervisors by attending township meetings on a regular basis and reporting the activities of the library to the supervisors
  • Offer personal and professional expertise to the library where warranted
