Monday's game pitting South Division leader Southern Lehigh against North Division Palmerton, who has not won a game this season, looked like it should have been a rout for the strong Spartan team. But the Lady Bombers softball team was eager for a win and made the Spartan girls dig in and work hard to keep their spotless Colonial League record.
Palmerton hits off of Katie Tankred, the Colonial League's pitcher with the most wins, put runners on bases in the third inning and allowed Palmerton to tie up the game, 2-2. Despite dominance from Southern Lehigh in the field and a run by Southern Lehigh in the fifth inning, Palmerton would come back again in the 7th inning to tie up the game. But Southern Lehigh sealed the deal in the 8th inning to go on to win the game 4-3, giving Tankred her 8th win.
The Spartan girls will face their biggest challenge next Monday when they face Colonial League South rival Saucon Valley, who has not lost a game this season and who sits second in the South Division solely based on games played. This promises to be a match-up that may predict who will come out on top in Colonial League play.
