This Week in Harrisburg

Gov. Tom Corbett outlined his budget priorities this week before a joint session of the General Assembly. The $29.4 billion proposal does not raise taxes. One highlight is the $363 million spending increase for pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade education, making the state’s investment in our public schools the highest it has ever been at $10.3 billion.

In the weeks to come, both the House and Senate Appropriations committees will hold hearings to closely examine the details of the spending plan. Learn more

This week, I joined other members of the House Manufacturing Caucus in Philadelphia for tours of the Boeing Company plant and Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. The caucus has been visiting manufacturing facilities around the state to get a better understanding of the challenges these companies face in today’s economy and what we can do in Harrisburg to stimulate job growth. At Boeing, we toured the Chinook helicopter production line, which was very interesting. Aker is a state-of-the-art shipbuilding plant which employs more than 1,100 workers.
