Church music can be seen from two extremes.
Either we think of music with archaic language and cumbersome melodies written centuries ago or our thoughts go to so called "contemporary worship" with its "7-11 Songs"...seven words repeated 11 times.
Neither do much to bring today's people to effectively worship the sovereign God who deserves our praise.
Thankfully the struggle with those extremes is finally being addressed.
Irish hymnwriters Keith and Kristyn Getty along with fellow poet Stuart Townend have brought today's Church an amazing gift...contemporary hymns that are singable and moving with a depth of truth that captures the heart. Their hymns include powerful selections including, "In Christ Alone," "The Power of the Cross," and "Come People of the Risen King." Consider these words from a new Easter hymn entitled, "See What a Morning."
One with the Father, Ancient of Days,
through the Spirit Who clothes faith with certainty.
Honor and blessing, glory and praise
to the King crowned with power and authority!
And we are raised with Him;
Death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered.
And we shall reign with Him,
for He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!
