The Saucon Rail Trail, which has been completed in Upper Saucon Township, will be officially opened to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony 10 a.m. June 11. Carolyn Lidie, Upper Saucon Park and Recreation Commission member, reported to the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) at the May 17 meeting, they are ready for the grand opening.
The EAC, along with the township, is now organizing volunteers to help maintain the trail. It will be the job of these volunteers, or Trail Tenders, as they will be called, to keep the trail clean and weed-free, remove dead wood, cut up dead trees, if necessary, and to report any problems to the township. The Trail Tenders will only do light- to medium-duty work, while township personnel will do the heavy–duty work, according to EAC Chairman Thomas Gettings.
If anyone is interested in participating in this project, contact Joseph Geib, Special Projects Coordinator with Upper Saucon Township at 610-282-1171, ext. 3 or at jgeib@uppersaucon.org.
