UST Supervisor 'Dream Team' Says Goodbye to Gutzmirtl and Horvath

Supervisors stepping down attend final meeting to pass budget for 2012.

Miro Gutzmirtl and Joseph Horvath attended their last meeting as supervisors on Monday -- at least for now.

Supervisors approved the 2012 budget, removing a study of possibly selling the township’s water system and approving a five-year police contract with a 2 percent increase in each of the first four years and 2.5 percent the final year.

Horvath, who did not seek re-election, departs after serving a six-year term. He is married and retired from Mack Trucks. He would not confirm if this would be his last term.

He says he ran for supervisor wanting to focus on the township’s fiscal situation. “It’s something I’m very happy I did. I’m proud to have served,” he said.

Gutzmirtl, in his final remarks as chairman, said, “There was suburban sprawl. No one was paying attention to ordinances.”

Calling the Board of Supervisors a “dream team,” he listed its accomplishments: creating the Environmental Advisory Council, appointing volunteers to committees, and amending zoning ordinances.

“We did the right things, at the right time, for the right reasons,” Gutzmirtl said. "We brought fiscal restraint to this township.”

Gutzmirtl, a retired teacher, says he will travel for a little before coming back and will visit his grandkids in Nashville, Tenn.

“My wife wouldn’t let me run again,” he said jokingly.

The supervisors passed the 2012 budget after removing $40,000 to study the possibility of selling the water system. The study was part of a recommendation from the Budget Advisory Committee.

“I’m not at all toward ever selling it,” Gutzmirtl said.

“We should have a pretty good idea if we want to sell it before the study,” said Supervisor Stephen Wagner.
