FBI Investigating String Of 7-11 Armed Robberies In Philly Suburbs

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The FBI said that the armed robbery of a 7-11 on Street Road is part of a string of armed robberies in the Philadelphia suburbs over the past 10 days.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Philadelphia division said that the agency is joining area law enforcement in seeking the public's help in identifying and locating three suspects responsible for at least five armed robberies of 7-11 convenience stores in the region.

All of the robberies have targeted 7-Eleven stores in the Philadelphia suburbs and taken place between midnight and 2 a.m., the FBI said.

Upper Southampton Township Police said the Street Road convenience store was held up early Sunday morning by armed robbers who brandished a black semi-automatic handgun.

Police believed that the robbers were connected to a similar crime at a 7-11 on Horsham Road in Montgomery Township.

The FBI has connected both of those to three other 7-11 robberies in Delaware County.

One subject generally guards the door while the other two armed robbers confront a store employee, display a gun, make threats, and demand money, the FBI said.

The FBI said on several occasions, the suspects have gone behind the front counter to intimidate or physically assault the employee, then take money and other items.

The dates and locations of these robberies:

  • July 22 —7-Eleven; 2370 Dutton Mill Road, Aston Township (Delaware County)
  • July 22 —7-Eleven; 143 West Eagle Road, Haverford Township (Delaware County)
  • July 27 —7-Eleven; 1307 Chester Pike, Sharon Hill (Delaware County)
  • July 30 —7-Eleven; 791 Horsham Road, Montgomery Township (Montgomery County)
  • July 30 —7-Eleven; 932 Street Road, Upper Southampton Township (Bucks County)

Action News 6 reported that a 7-11 store in Philadelphia's Roxborough section was robbed early Tuesday morning.

Police said the store in the 5600 block of Ridge Avenue was held up at gunpoint at about 2 a.m. and that two suspects got away with cash from the register, Action News said.

The FBI said that in the most recent robberies over the weekend, only two of the armed robbers were present and participated.

The three men have concealed their faces with masks and sunglasses and worn gloves, the FBI said.

They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on these robberies or these subjects is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000 or go to tips.fbi.gov.

A reward is being offered for information leading to these suspects’ arrests; tipsters can remain anonymous.
