As Temperatures Plunge, Bucks County Declares 'Code Blue'

As temperatures continue to plunge, Bucks County has issued a “Code Blue” declaration beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday and going through 7 a.m. Sunday.

Some of the season’s coldest temperatures are on their way to the area and will bring single-digit lows and wind chills near or below zero.

Three Bucks County churches have been designated as emergency shelters. The churches are: Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol, Trinity Episcopal Church in Buckingham and West Swamp Mennonite Church in Quakertown. The on-call churches will coordinate transportation, temporary shelter, food and other necessities, county officials said.

Temperatures Tuesday will be in the 20s. Overnight Wednesday will be bitterly cold, with lows in the single digits, according to the Weather Channel. Wednesday’s high temperature will be in the 20s.

Thursday’s high is likely going to hover around 20 degrees, with a low in the mid-teens, according to the Weather Channel.

The National Weather Service, which has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region, said the combination of brisk winds and “very cold” temperatures will produce wind chills near or below zero on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Officials advise all residents to be aware of the severe anticipated weather conditions. “County residents are urged to check on their elderly neighbors during this period of frigid weather. Caution also should be taken with pets during the anticipated period of extremely cold temperatures,” the county said.
