Upper Southampton Gets $1M To Improve Traffic Signals On Second Street Pike

Upper Southampton has been awarded a $1,079,069​ state grant to install adaptive traffic signals along Second Street Pike.

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Upper Southampton Township has been awarded a $1,079,069 state grant to install adaptive traffic signals along Second Street Pike. It is one of four municipalities in Bucks County that will receive a combined total of nearly $2.5 million from the state of Pennsylvania to complete six traffic signal upgrade projects.

According to experts, adaptive traffic signal control uses real-time information to determine when a light should be red or green. The aim is to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

A total of 92 municipalities will receive $33 million as part of the state Department of Transportation’s “Green Light-Go” program.The Green Light-Go program is designed to provide state funds for the operation and maintenance of traffic signals along critical and designated corridors on state highways.

In addition to Upper Southampton, the following Bucks County municipalities will receive state funding:

  • Bensalem Township -- $501,102 for installation of Adaptive Traffic Signal Equipment and Software along the Hulmeville Road Corridor from Street Road to Bristol Road.
  • Bristol Township -- $252,184 for Traffic Signal Modernization along State Road at Cedar Avenue.
  • Bristol Township -- $191,255 for Traffic Signal Modernization along Radcliffe Street at Randall Avenue.
  • Bristol Township -- $226,194 for Traffic Signal Modernization along Mill Creek Parkway at Haines Road.
  • Yardley -- $212,960 for Intersection Improvements along Main Street at Afton Avenue.
