Every occasion and special event has a story. And Kim Bensing is not your typical storyteller. She is not a teacher or a librarian. She is an award winning artist and designer who employs a variety of innovative and artistic techniques to help others tell THEIR stories.

From her design studio, aptly named Heirloom, located on an 18th century farm property in bucolic Doylestown, Pa., Bensing helps couples and families unearth their stories so that they can share them with friends and loved ones in the form of specialty invitation suites for milestone events. She also helps businesses design logos and other branded materials to tell their stories in a way that is unique to their style and business persona.

Bensing’s designs have included a wedding suite that detailed the metamorphosis of a couple’s relationship up through their wedding day. Graphics depicted the event details and bridal party as different stages of the development of a caterpillar morphing into a butterfly.This theme was significant to the couple because the groom was studying entomology and the couple met as infants. 

Each project is as unique as the stories that Bensing’s clients have to tell.

Bensing has won several prestigious art direction awards for her work and has been featured in publications such as The Knot and Lehigh Valley Style. Says Bensing, “Because of my advertising background, I believe every design I create should have substance and be clear and meaningful. I do not simply design pretty pieces, instead I begin each project with a concept and I am proud to work with clients and vendors who support my “idea driven, eco-friendly ideals.”
