Air Quality Alert Issued Tuesday For Philadelphia Region

With extreme heat expected over the next few days, the state DEP is warning people with health issues to be mindful while going outside.

PHILADELPHIA — An air quality alert has been issued for Tuesday for the Philadelphia region as temperatures soar to near triple degrees over the next few days.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange for Tuesday, meaning that the air will be unhealthy for some sensitive groups.

As of now, the DEP has issued a Code Yellow alert for Wednesday and Thursday.

The DEP said that ozone has risen close to the code ORANGE range, while fine particle pollution (PM2.5) also remains moderate.

The forecast calls for temperatures, especially Thursday and Friday, to be at highs of 100 degrees in addition to higher humidity.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for sunshine for the most part, with highs peaking in the lower 90s.
